Course Description

The Inside Out Prison Exchange Program is an intensive seminar in American Studies taught inside an Indiana prison. Students carpool to the prison (about an hour’s drive) for a weekly three-hour seminar with incarcerated classmates as peers. Subject matter ranges from post-war prison history to space and place to prisons in popular culture. The course is usually taught in the spring semester, and an interview with the instructor is required in order to register.
