My paper was accepted to the Journal of Popular Culture! The title of the article is “Remember Things: Consumerism, Nostalgia, and Geek Culture in Stranger Things.” I am currently working in Chicago at a tech company called Jellyvision as a Production Apprentice, which is a temporary 6-month internship. My plan is to work for a year or two and hopefully attend grad school afterwards.
I have accepted a Fulbright in Brazil. Extra funding became available and I was given a grant, which is really exciting. The program is from February to November, but I don’t know yet where I’ll be placed. In addition to the Fulbright, I have also accepted a spot at Vanderbilt in the Learning, Diversity and Urban Studies program. I will start in Nashville in August, take 9 months off to do Fulbright, and return to complete my M.Ed. in 2020.
After graduating in May 2015, Stone worked as an accounting assistant for the record label Secretly Canadian, owned by BWSCD, located in Bloomington. He moved to Los Angeles in 2015 and launched a new career as producer for a music house called Butter Music + Sound. Yarí defended her dissertation, “Negotiating a Hemispheric Latinidad: Latin American Representations of Latino/as in the U.S.,” May 3. She accepted a visiting assistant professor position in the Department of American Studies, IUB, for the 2018/2019 academic year.
Jordache is assistant professor of Feminist Studies in Culture and Media in the Women and Gender Studies Program in the Department of Historical Studies at UTM and holds a graduate appointment in the Women and Gender Studies Institute. His current book manuscript is tentatively titled Against Afronormativity: Queering Afro-Asian Intimacies, Sticky Erotics, and the Aesthetics of Race in South Africa. In 2017, Jordache accepted a tenure-track position in the English Department at the University of Oregon, with a specialization in the Literatures and Media of Africa and the African Diaspora.
Jed accepted a position as limited-term assistant professor in the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga and will be teaching courses in the history program and the Women’s and Gender studies program. Dissertation title: “Indigenous Intimacies: Native Americans and Mexican Americans Since 1848”.
Nzingha works as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Carter G. Woodson Institute for African American and African Studies at the University of Virginia. Dissertation title: “Imperfect Independence: Black Women Experimental Filmmakers.”
