Graduate studies in the Americas

The boundaries of American Studies is the “Americas” writ large: we situate the history, culture, and social formations of the United States within a hemispheric context, and draw attention to those questions and issues that are shared by all New World societies, even if they are answered or addressed quite differently in each case.

Our graduate training provides students with an informed understanding of the place of the United States in the Americas and in the world by emphasizing the interplay of national culture and identity with global economic, demographic, political, and social factors. Our research is rich and diverse, with powerful implications for many areas of study.
